AFTER all the fuss over Frankie Dettori swerving Listowel, the world-famous jockey finds himself at the Curragh today (Saturday) and he’ll be back at Bellewstown on Wednesday.

Dettori (52) remains on schedule to retire at the end of this year and is unlikely to be making any more appearances on an Irish racecourse after today.

He rides the Aidan O’Brien-trained Cherry Blossom in the Goffs Million, replacing Ryan Moore who was due to ride for Coolmore in Australia in the early hours of today, Irish-time.

Dettori has enjoyed multiple big race wins already this year and it seems written in the stars he will sign off with another one today on what may well be his final ride in Ireland.

On Wednesday, Dettori will be at Bellewstown for the Barney Curley Charity Cup but he is not expected to ride there.

Just like last year, the jockey will act as non-playing captain of a team of riders who will compete in a two-race series against a team captained by Willie Mullins.

Points will be awarded to the first six placed horses on a scale of 20, 10, 5, 3, 2, 1 and the team that accumulates the highest number of points across the two races in the challenge will win the Barney Curley Charity Cup.

The novel event is a fundraiser for Direct Aid For Africa.

There is free admission on the day, courtesy of the Irish National Bookmakers Association.
