DAVID Nyhan has been selected for the coveted role of Eventing Ireland’s 2025 Youth Ambassador. Nyhan is 16 and hails from Mallow, Co Cork, where he began riding at a young age, having inherited his sister’s pony. After giving up riding for a few years, David got back into the saddle in 2019.

In 2024, David took up the reins on his sister’s horse, Carla (Tennessee Girl) and, with the help of international eventer Sian Coleman, David and Carla began their eventing career, finishing the season with several top 10 placings, including a third at Clyda 1. David was also given the ride on Dougal (Cydonia Frankly Cruising), owned by Iona Daly, and the combination recorded a couple of top 10 finishes in their first few outings together. David is also bringing on a four-year-old named Storm.

“I’m delighted to have been selected as the 2025 youth ambassador,” Nyhan said.

“I’m looking forward to getting a few internationals done with both horses next year and, hopefully, setting it up the level as well. I’m really looking forward to the season starting already, and I’m hoping to give it my best shot with both horses.”

Eventing Ireland thanked everyone who applied and said the standard of applicants gave the selection panel a tough job indeed.
