CONGRATULATIONS to young rider Tom Wachman, who was voted the October Gain Equine Nutrition Star of the Month. Wachman was nominated following his first ever three-star Grand Prix win in Valencia with Tabasco de Toxandria Z. Well done Tom!

Imelda Kernan RIP

THE equestrian community was saddened to hear of the passing of Imelda Kernan (nee Kerley) from Crossmaglen last Saturday, November 23rd.

Beloved wife of the late Frank and cherished mother of James, Peter, John, Ellen and the late Hank and Shirley. Imelda will be lovingly missed by her family and friends.

She was laid to rest at St Patrick’s Church, Crossmaglen on Tuesday. The Irish Field extends its condolences to Imelda’s family.

Lucy Latta named ‘Amateur of the Year’

WEXFORD’s Lucy Latta was named the ‘Amateur Rider of the Year’ at the Horse & Hound awards at Dallas Burston Polo Club in Warwickshire on Wednesday night. Latta, who combines eventing at the top level with her job as a brand manager, finished second at the Badminton Horse Trials earlier this year with RCA Patron Saint, the pair’s first start at the level. The winner of the ‘Show Horse of the Year’ award was Mulberry Lane (OBOS Quality x Hermes De Reve), the Irish Sport Horse, bred by Brian Clinghan, who was crowned Supreme Champion at HOYS in October.

IHWT auction

THE Irish Horse Welfare Trust (IHWT) online winter fundraising auction will go live tomorrow, December 1st at noon and continue until midnight on December 10th. It will include items, such as art, hampers, books, experiences, vouchers of all kinds, plus racing tickets, annual badges and stable tours. Polly Blue Eyes retired

JENNIFER Kuehnle has announced the retirement of her five-star partner Polly Blue Eyes. The 16-year-old mare has taken Kuehnle from a Junior European Championships in 2019 and a Young Rider team silver in 2021, all the way to her first five-star at Luhmühlen in June, where they finished seventh. The pair were members of the winning senior Nations Cup team in Millstreet in May.
