A NEW studbook championship for the Global Champions trophy will take place in Valkenswaard from September 27th to 30th 2023, organised by the World Breeding Federation for Sporthorses (WBFSH) in association with the Global Champions Tour.
The event is for five, six, seven and eight-year-old horses and there will also be a seperate class for eight and nine-year-old stallions. Each studbook will send a team of five horses for each age category. GCT director Jan Tops and the WBFSH show jumping studbook have signed off on the event with the blessing of the FEI and studbooks. The event will run from 2023 up to and including 2026 in close co-operation with the WBFSH.
Announcing the new breeding championships at the five-star World Cup show in Bordeaux, France last weekend was Denmark’s Jan Pederson, President of the World Breeding Federation. He explained: “We had a meeting during the World Equestrian Games in Denmark with Jan Tops and we came to an agreement to run the new championship in September which we really look forward to.”
Board member Xavier Libbrecht added: “This is a very exciting new breeding championship for the studbooks and has been endorsed by many countries. It is a different format to Zangersheide which is a world championship. Both events will give breeders lots to aim for this year. It is very exciting for show jumping breeders, catering for all ages and a stallion class for eight and nine year olds.”
The FEI-WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championships for Young Horses in Lanaken takes place from September 21st-24th, 2023.
