AIDAN O’Brien will have two darts to fire in each of the opening two classics of the season at Newmarket next weekend, the 2000 Guineas and 1000 Guineas.

Speaking to The Irish Field, O’Brien said: “Luxembourg and Point Lonsdale are on track to go over. That is what we’re thinking at the moment anyway.

“In the 1000, we’re looking at Tenebrism and it’s very possible Tuesday could go over as well, but nothing is set in stone with her yet. Toy is more likely to go for the French Guineas.

“We’re very happy with them all and looking forward to getting them started.”

Luxembourg, the Vertem Futurity winner, is the shorter-priced of O’Brien’s duo for the colts’ classic. He is third favourite behind two Godolphin colts, Native Trail and Coreobus, the former having readily taken the measure of Point Lonsdale in the National Stakes at the Curragh last September.

O’Brien is the leading trainer in the history of the 2000 Guineas with 10 wins, and he also has seven wins in the 1000, including the last three renewals. The betting for that race is headed by Inspiral, the Fillies’ Mile winner, for John & Thady Gosden. Inspiral’s form was boosted by Nell Gwyn winner Cachet, who had finished third to her in the Fillies’ Mile.

Tenebrism won the Cheveley Park Stakes in breathtaking fashion on what was just her second start. She heads a strong Irish contingent that also consists of Jessica Harrington’s Discoveries and Dermot Weld’s Homeless Songs, successful on her comeback at Leopardstown earlier this month.
