THE eventing season may be over at Ballindenisk but other equestrian sports are continuing at the Watergrasshill venue.

The Muskerry Branch of the Irish Pony Club is holding the first leg of its 2023 Jumps Ahead league there tomorrow, Sunday. There are 150 entries over six classes – from 60cm to 1.10m – and places were sold out within an hour.

The South Munster Region of Dressage Ireland is staging two shows at Ballindenisk before Christmas. The first, on Bank Holiday Monday, October 30th, will include four HSI autumn development series age classes while the second, on Saturday, December 2nd, will be the final of the Region’s Childéric autumn league.

The following afternoon, things will be moving along a bit faster as the United Foxhounds are running their autumn point-to-point at the Fell family farm that day.

Among the winners at this meeting last year was John O’Donovan’s four-year-old Shanagh Bob who, following his debut success here, was sold for £200,000 at Tattersalls Cheltenham and is now being trained by Nicky Henderson for Marie Donnelly.

The Doyen Chief, who won the five-year-old and upwards geldings’ maiden on his second start for Mark Scallan, was sold at the same sale for £110,000.

While Shanagh Bob has yet to make his racecourse debut, The Doyen Chief won a Hereford bumper in April on his only start for Alan King, carrying the colours of Masterson Holdings to a two and a quarter-length victory.
