A.P. McCOY travelled to the Curragh last Saturday to take part in the Curragh-to-Curragh Cycle in aid of cancer research.

This was the fourth year of the event, organised by Gavin Lynch, and it saw over 200 cyclists complete the course which ranged from 12km to 100km. The weather was perfect and the cyclists called into Moyglare Stud, Gilltown Stud, Naas Racecourse and Punchestown along the way.

As you’d expect, the ever-competitive McCoy was first over the finishing line but it was a dead-heat with three other very special guests.

Joining A.P. in the front line was Professor Grainne O’Kane who was recently appointed the Pat Smullen Chair for Pancreatic Cancer in UCD. Grainne completed the full 100km.

Jennifer Hayes and her husband John were also to the fore. Just seven weeks ago, Jennifer had a cyst removed from her pancreas. She cycled the last kilometre while John cycled the full distance.

Gavin Lynch reported: “We had a fun day end everyone seemed to enjoy it. It was lovely to have a group photo of all the cyclists in the winner’s enclosure at the Curragh afterwards.”
