SIR A.P. McCoy popped up at a Cheltenham preview night in Kilkenny this week and made it a night to remember for a young racing fan. At the charity auction, 12-year-old Adam Leahy had his heart set on a limited edition McCoy print but he had to give best when bidding reached €950. It turned out that McCoy himself had put in the winning bid and he called Adam to the stage where he presented the boy with the portrait. “It was the best evening of my life,” said Adam from Old Leighlin, Co Carlow. The young lad was bidding with money raised through the sale of a pony. A young man with the courage of his convictions.
