ON page 19 you’ll will find coverage of the Association of Irish Racehorse Owners Flat Awards, which were presented at Naas last Sunday.

Each winner received a unique painting of their horse by Jason Ó Ceannobháin.

From Dublin but now based in Celbridge, Co Kildare, the 39-year-old artist has been exhibiting his work since the tender age of 14.

Working primarily in acrylic, pencil and charcoal, his technique is characterised by a close attention to detail and realism to accurately capture his subjects and their surroundings.

AIRO manager Regina Byrne took a punt on Jason in commissioning him to paint 16 horses, all this year’s flat and jumps award winners.

Regina said: “I was amazed how quickly Jason turned them out and when I checked them against the photographs I have to say that he did an excellent job.”

The NH awards will be presented next month.
