IT’S not that often that a racing photograph makes the front page of a mainstream national newspaper and rarer still to see a snap from the sales given page one status.

So well done to photographer Morgan Treacy of Inpho whose portrait of Emily McDonagh of Thistletown Stud with a foal at Tattersalls Ireland was reproduced by The Irish Times on Tuesday.

Morgan told us: “I’m at the sales all week with a free rein to take pictures which might be used by Tattersalls in brochures and advertisements. I’m always trying to get behind the scenes and was delighted to find Emily sharing a tender moment with her foal in the stables.

“I sent a few photos to The Irish Times’ picture desk with no expectation that they would be used. I think it’s good that people get to see how much breeders love their horses and that it’s not just a business.”
