RUBY Walsh, Dawn Run and Kauto Star have had songs written about them in recent times, and you can now add Nick Rockett to that list of racing heroes to be immortalised in song.
Offaly musician Ciaran ‘Brownie’ Guinan penned The Ballad of Nick Rockett following an enjoyable trip to Aintree where the success of the Mullins father and son team in the Grand National made a big impression on him. Guinan is a racing fan who has been a member of the successful Whitegrass Syndicate. Below is our favourite verse and chorus from his latest composition, which is sung to the tune of Christy Moore’s My Little Honda 50.
Willie looked at Jackie,
Said ‘We can’t go any higher,
If Patrick’s the winning jockey,
That makes me the winning sire’.
The fabulous Nick Rockett,
He’ll see a fence and pop it.
A stone wall wouldn’t stop it, anyway.
The glorious Nick Rockett,
With a docket in me pocket,
I’ve his picture in me locket, every day.
