MICHAEL Kinane’s ability to win handicaps by the minimum margin was one of his most underappreciated skills, but the retired jockey may have lost his touch.

Accepting a Lifetime Achievement Award from the ITBA last weekend, he told a story of a recent round of golf he played with the president of his local golf course in Portugal.

“We both play off 13 but, shall we say, I was slightly better than him, so I had to explain that the handicapper at The K Club did things differently!”

Michael said his ambition now was to make 80. Did he mean 80 years of age or to complete 18 holes in 80 strokes?
