FOLLOWING Mayo’s penalty shootout loss to Tyrone last weekend, it came as no surprise when a horse named Mayo For Sam was beaten in a photo-finish at Ballinrobe on Monday.
The pain never ends for Mayo and, to rub salt in the wounds, a Roscommon woman won the best dressed competition!
The winner, Bernie Donnelly, was arguably taking a drop in class having previously represented Roscommon in the Rose of Tralee. Bernie was paying her first trip to Ballinrobe this week and walked away with a stay at The Lodge at Ashford Castle plus €1,000 in cash.
THANKS to all who entered last week’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby competition. The correct answer was Joseph and Donnacha O’Brien. The five winners of a pair of Derby day tickets are Adrian Purcell (Thurles), Laura Reardon (Knocklong), Marjie Gannon (Ballyragget), Seamus O’Sullivan (Kilmacthomas) and Celine O’Keeffe (Leixlip).
