PLENTY of familiar names from the racing world took part in the annual charity ‘Polo in the Park’ day in Dublin’s Phoenix Park last Sunday.

With no racing scheduled, lots of jockeys and trainers made themselves available for the event which is run by Derville Meade in aid of Down Syndrome charities.

Sponsored by insurance firm NFP, An Aon Company, and legal practice Matheson, the event raised vital funds for The Down Syndrome Centre and raised awareness for the Together Academy, two organisations committed to empowering children and young adults with Down Syndrome.

Attendees were welcomed with a champagne reception sponsored by Tankardstown House.

Jockeys taking part included Colin Keane, Gary Carroll, Sam Ewing, Jack Kennedy, Billy Lee and Keith Donoghue. They took on trainers Tony Martin, Gavin Cromwell, Fozzy Stack, Kate Harrington, Robert Power and Ross O’Sullivan.

The highest-scoring team was awarded Treo Eile gilets, while each participant received a Dublin Crystal plaque sponsored by Derville in recognition of their participation.

Adding to the fundraising efforts was a raffle which boasted prizes from Weirs & Company, KDK Sisters, The Design Table, Fairyhouse Racecourse and Tankardstown House.

Solo vocalist Sean Boland provided the perfect musical backdrop, while guests enjoyed some refreshments afterwards from Tankardstown House and Curraghmore Whiskey.
