THE Connolly’s Red Mills/Irish Pony Club eventing series continued last weekend when the United and Carbery Branches combined to stage a qualifier at Ballindenisk on Saturday, followed by the Island Branch’s leg at Frankfort Stud on Sunday.

At Ballindenisk, Carlow’s Lily Redmond ran out a four-point winner of the sole Intermediate class, when completing on her dressage score (26.25 penalties) with the Irish Sport Horse mare Cartown Trending, a nine-year-old chesnut by Future Trend.

The South Union Branch won two classes, the Intro Intermediate through Rian Tagney and FVS Jester Million and the Junior B thanks to the efforts of Molly Egan and Houndwood Moonbay. The Junior A went the way of Tipperary’s in-form Ailbhe Hally on Carnaween Jake, while The Kingdom’s Sophie Culloty topped the leaderboard in the Junior C with Lunas Little Star.

The Co Limerick Branch got on the scoreboard in Section A of the Under 12 class, where Lucy Ryan recorded an all-the-way success on Kilmaine Bay, while Scarteen’s Meg Ryan completed on her dressage score to win Section B on board Leadmore Breeze.

All but one of the five starters in the Novice Junior class were eliminated, leaving Natalie Coleman to take the win, in spite of picking up four show jumping penalties with Grangebeg 2.

It was a long day at Frankfort Stud, where 11 classes were contested including a six-runner Open, which saw Wexford’s Rebekah Rochowiak record a second successive success on her 11-year-old Ars Vivendi mare Greannanstown Vivendi Girl.

Another Co Wexford Branch, the Killinicks, won Section A of the Intermediate, despite Maggie Willet adding four show jumping penalties to her winning dressage score on Sally Grey Gallough, while Shillelagh’s Lucy Keane led from start to finish in Section B on Lon Mac Liomhtha.

There was a divide also in the Intro Intermediate, where the honours in Section A went to Carlow’s Niamh Tobin riding Broomfield Banner. East Galway’s Alex Kenny’s journey over to the south east of the country paid off, with a win in Section B on board Ballinglen Katie’s Pet.
