THE Scarteen Branch of the Irish Pony Club once again held a dedicated members’ race following the concluding 12-furlong handicap at Tipperary racecourse last Sunday.

Following a track walk and advice from some of the professional jockeys, 10 young riders lined up for the ‘Tipperary Racecourse Champion Stakes’ over four furlongs.

First to past the winning post was Kayleigh Whelan on Connies Way who, the previous weekend, had been ridden by Sophia McGrath on the Scarteen Legends Junior team at the IPC’s National Eventing Championships at Tattersalls Ireland.

Jamie Crowe finished second with Castlequarter Rambo, a combination who were on the winning Scarteen Defenders’ team in the Under 12s’ team championship at Tatts, while Billy Kilmartin placed third on My Little Hero.
