AMONG the many people who visited the TRI Equestrian carrot stand at the Kildare Pony Club Fun Minimus/Tetrathlon/Fledglings day at Punchestown Racecourse on Sunday was Sean McNamara, a former member of the Co Wicklow Branch.

The 23-year-old, who was delighted to meet so many of his old Pony Club friends and mentors at the event, was the Senior Boys national individual Tetrathlon champion back in 2018. He then went on to compete internationally for Ireland in Pentathlon but was forced to retire through injury. He currently rides out locally for Kilbride racehorse trainer Prunella Dobbs and has recently taken out an amateur jockey’s licence.

Throughout his sporting career to date, Sean has been supported by his parents, Ronan and Niav, plus his godmother, Jennifer Kavanagh, and he is most appreciative of all that they have done for him. Let’s hope it won’t be long before we are writing about his career breakthrough on the racecourse.
