KILMEAGUE’s Amira Curran had a brilliant Balmoral 2024, most obviously by claiming the North Down Marquees ridden Connemara pony championship on her father Daryl’s Caherpuca Chappy.

That victory saw the combination take their place in Thursday afternoon’s horse parade, where the 14-year-old got to gallop around the Main Arena on the seven-year-old Coolin America gelding and was then selected by Connolly’s Red Mills’ Jane Davis as winner of the Carr & Day & Martin best turned-out award.

Last Friday evening, Amira was living the dream again, when sitting down with family members – including grandparents – to watch an hour-long UTV programme on Balmoral Show, in which she and Caherpuca Chappy featured.

“That tail!” was really all that Jane Davis had to say when asked why had she selected Curran and the Connemara as her turn-out winner. Jane too had a good show on the competition front being delighted with the way her former racehorse, Tiffany’s Gold, jumped in his working hunter class, despite having a fence down, and with his sixth place finish in the ‘large’ riding horse class.
