ENVIRONMENTAL concerns within the agricultural realm can be a minefield and it can be hard to unpack much of the information and statistics being dished out for Irish farmers. In search of help to understand things a little better for my own equine farming endeavour, I came across a series of podcasts from Teagasc called The Environment Edge.

Presented by Cathal Somers and Deirdre Glynn, this podcast brings you the latest information, science and opinion on farm sustainability and should definitely be one to add to your favourites this new year. There are 21 episodes in the series so far and this well-put-together podcast engages in lively discussion with environmental experts and goes a long way to shedding light on the many areas of concern.

Each Environmental Edge podcast is delivered in a bitesize episode of 25 minutes. Topics covered so far include your farm’s carbon footprint, Ireland’s future climate, antimicrobial resistance in animal health, water quality and the role of farmland birds, plus a whole lot more. You can subscribe on the usual platforms or listen to them via the Teagasc website at: https://www.teagasc.ie/environmentedge/.
