Champagne Platinum might be worth chancing on his debut over the banks. Always regarded as a talented horse, he has recovered some of his best form since joining Enda Bolger, most notably chasing home Death Duty here in the Grand National Trial in February and he then wasn’t beaten all that far behind Lord Lariat at Fairyhouse. His seasonal debut run over hurdles can be excused as it may well have been a prep and Keith Donoghue is an excellent booking for him.

His stablemate Midnight Maestro was second here 12 months ago and won a banks race back here later in the season. He seemed to have a similar prep run first time up and looks set to run well again.

This could throw up a nice juvenile hurdler and it could well be one for J.P. McManus. He has two in here and they’re intriguing, having reached a smart standard on the flat.

Good Heavens is the obvious one. He was just touched off in an Irish Cambridgeshire and reached a rating of 101, but it might be worth chancing Sundial. He was a Navan maiden winner for Aidan O’Brien and now joins Padraig Roche, who did so well with Brazil for the same owner last season. Sundial only had four starts on the flat and so has lots of scope to improve in general.

Impero looks the most promising of those who have run, having finished second to Common Practice at Galway, while Komedy Kicks is another interesting hurdles newcomer for Jessica Harrington.

It might be worth chancing Friendly Star after he made a pleasing Irish debut for Tony Martin. Racing in a novice hurdle at Galway, the seven-year-old was allowed to stride on after racing keenly on his first start in 330 days. He led most of the way but even when he was passed by Favourite Moon, he fought back up the hill and was only beaten by a couple of lengths. That winner is a useful sort, especially on the flat, so it was a fine run, and Friendly Star should strip fitter now. A mark of 118 looks workable.

Secret She Keeps is interesting as well. She only has the two starts over fences, but her second to Amirite at Fairyhouse is smart form, as his most recent effort to beat Hope Des Blins. Maybe a lack of experience may catch her out in this bigger field but, if she handles that, she has real scope to continue improving.

Thedevilscoachman is possibly the most talented of these but he has so far failed to convince he can convert his smart hurdles form to fences and his stablemate Idas Boy is preferred. The Gigginstown chaser was an impressive winner on his chase debut at Cork and though he was beaten over the same course and distance on his most recent run, he was only a half-length off El Barra, who is a fully-fledged 154-rated horse.

Minella Crooner is an intriguing runner for what is his chase debut. He was favourite for the Albert Bartlett before a setback ruled him out of Cheltenham last season, and he could well take a high rank in the novice chase division this term.

Monbeg Park ran to a fair standard first time out and could prove tough to beat in what looks a potentially informative maiden hurdle. Sean Doyle’s five-year-old finished third to Affordale Fury with the pair well clear of their rivals over two miles and six furlongs at Galway. With the benefit of that experience and fitness, he can turn in an improved effort now.

Seabank Bistro will be the focus for many. A five-length winner of his bumper at Naas, he revelled in the tough conditions of the Champion Bumper when fourth to stablemate Facile Vega. Others to note are four-year-old maiden point-to-point winners Top Speed and A Fortune Out West, who both represent big-name connections now.

Supreme Jet might be the answer to this tricky heat. Oliver McKiernan’s six-year-old has mixed it between the flat and hurdles on his recent runs, but his last two efforts in the latter code have been good - having chased home a well handicapped Plains Indian at Ballinrobe and then beating Typical Thomas at Sligo. The ground may well dry out a little more over the weekend and that will suit him. He won his maiden hurdle at this track in most impressive fashion and is completely unexposed over this longer trip.

My Immortal makes some appeal as well, though any drying of the ground is a negative. He won smoothly over this course and distance last season but struggled a little on quicker ground here on his comeback. He has low mileage as well so has the scope to improve. Captain Conby is another to note, having chased home the useful Eric Bloodaxe on his seasonal debut, and allowed to run off an unchanged mark here.

Lecky Watson is taken to get off the mark for Willie and Patrick Mullins. He finished second in the George Mernagh Memorial Bumper first time out at Fairyhouse last April. Given time to develop since that, he should be a tough nut to crack now. Cato Capone is the most obvious threat. Gordon Elliott’s four-year-old showed promise in his sole point-to-point effort, finishing second at Ballynoe.
