In the shadows of the Dublin Racing Festival I am picking out a horse of Willie Mullins that didn’t manage to win at Navan last Sunday, writes Page Fuller.
Nick Rockett was a close runner-up to American Mike in the Grade 2 novices’ chase, but from our Lengths Gained Jumping data we can see he threw his chances away from poor jumps three and two fences from home.
He put down violently three out, causing him to lose 2.14 lengths on American Mike. He then took 3.52 seconds to recover his speed at the back of two out, again costing him 2.4 lengths on American Mike. A better jump at the last gave him a chance, but it still meant that he had thrown away 2.67 lengths to American Mike just through jumping over the last three.
If he can improve his jumping, he could certainly turn that form around!
