THE racing and breeding fraternities are known as a competitive bunch, which explains why the Mark O’Hanlon Racing & Breeding Quiz is always such a popular event.

Self-proclaimed experts will be out in force to earn proven status at this year’s renewal, which moves to a new venue, Gowran Park Racecourse, on Tuesday, February 18th at 8pm. Last year’s winning team of Eoin Fives, Shane Power, Charles Weld and Declan Foy are a tough act to follow, having answered 96 of the 100 questions correctly.

Just one point below in second place was a team consisting of The Irish Field’s Mark Costello, fellow journalist Tyrone Molloy, Ardmore Equine’s Kieran Gleeson and pre-trainer Brian O’Connor. A bold show will also be expected from a team with three wins under their belt, the respected quartet of Ryan McElligott, Mouse O’Ryan, Bobby O’Ryan and Ger Connolly.

Over 30 teams took part last year and more may be expected next week, as entry is now free.

The quiz is run in memory of Mark O’Hanlon, who is missed by many in the industry, including event organiser Joe Foley.
