THE Galway Races Summer Festival Ball, in aid of jockey Graham Lee, raised €92,172 for Graham plus an additional €11,686 donation from Tote for the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund.

The funds raised from the ball will now go directly to the Injured Jockey’s Fund to support Graham in his recovery.

From Galway, Graham achieved worldwide fame when winning the Grand National on Amberleigh House in 2004. He also rode Ascot Gold Cup winner Trip To Paris in 2015.

In November 2023, he suffered life-changing injuries in a freak accident at Newcastle Races.

Michael Moloney, chief executive of Galway Racecourse, said: “The funds raised will make a significant difference not only in Graham’s life, but also in supporting the welfare of jockeys via the Injured Jockeys Fund.

“Our event showcased the best of our local community here in Galway and the racing industry at large - the camaraderie, passion and willingness to support one of our own was phenomenal.”
