WE know Jim Bolger doesn’t like cheats and he appears to be taking steps to ensure his isn’t swindled out of this year’s Hurling for Cancer match.

Jim’s stars were comfortably the best side in last year’s encounter but opposing coach Davy Russell broke all the rules, sending on 26 players in the closing minutes which helped the reds clinch a one-point win in Newbridge, Co Kildare. You would think the nearby Turf Club would have stepped in to see justice done but, once again, it has been left to Jim to level the playing pitch. After eight years in Newbridge, the game has been transferred to Netwatch Cullen Park in Carlow, just a few minutes down the road from Bolger basecamp. Hometown advantage will surely swing it for the purple and gold.

Put Monday, August 21st in your diary – 6pm throw-in. As usual, loads of inter-county stars and personalities from the sporting and entertainment world will be lining up. Drug testing has yet to be mentioned but don’t rule it out.
