THERE was a new face on Racing TV last Wednesday presenting coverage from Dundalk Stadium.
Former jockey Paul Callaghan has been on parade ring duties at Dundalk for a couple of years and was called upon at the last minute on Wednesday by Racing TV to step in front of the cameras.
“No bother”, said the Meathman, who went on to interview connections of the day’s winners like an old hand throughout the afternoon. “I only had 30 minutes to study the form but thankfully a few of the old reliables were running in the handicaps, so I think it went well.”
Judging by the positive reaction on social media, Paul is likely to be in demand again. As he is a full-time and valuable member of The Irish Field’s advertising and marketing team, we just hope Paul is not snapped up by RTÉ or ITV for Cheltenham!
MAKE your way to the Lord Bagenal Hotel on Wednesday week, February 28th (8pm) for the annual Mark O’Hanlon Memorial Racing Quiz.
Organised by Joe Foley of Ballyhane Stud, the quiz is a super social occasion. Trying to beat perennial winners Bobby and Aidan O’Ryan, Ryan McElligott and Ger Connolly is like trying to beat Willie Mullins in a Grade 1, but we’ll keep trying and it’s all for a good cause too. This year’s beneficiary is the Graham Lee/Injured Jockeys Fund. See you there.
THANKS to the hundreds of readers who recently took our online survey. Five respondents were chosen at random to receive €100 One4all vouchers and the winners are Janet Costello (Limerick), Maura Gleeson (Cork), Michael Shannon (Meath), David Burgess (Carlow) and Emma McDonald (Kildare).
