Carrickadawson Saturday

WITH the lack of recent racing due to the inclement weather Ronan McNally and his committee put together an end of season fixture at Carrickadawson on Saturday last.

They were certainly well rewarded with top drawer racing in front of a record crowd who basked in the September sunshine.

Kian McNally and Patrick McGettigan shared two winners apiece with Kian landing the silverware for the better placings.

Kian kicked off in the best possible style when the Dingle ‘triple crown’ winner Chloe’s Sam landed the featured 10-furlong Derby. This exceptional performer found yet another gear inside the distance to see off Volar Alto Amigo and Let’s Try Again.

The Crabbe/McNally partnership then combined to land the mile contest with She’s Got It. This year’s Golden Mile heroine put up a vintage performance to beat Who Told You with Right On Time in third.

The first and second had occupied the same positions in that epic finish at the Dingle festival. Both winners are due to reappear in Mullingar tomorrow.

Ballyare jockey Patrick McGettigan has enjoyed a fine breakthrough season and he was the toast of the locals with a first and last race double.

Wee Bucks for the locally based Holian Syndicate caused a major upset when winning the 10-furlong 14.2hh race. The winner built on a nice run in Dingle and powered home up the straight to deny Little Chief by a length and a half.

Lisa Cregg has enjoyed a season to savour with King Of The Hill and they topped it all off in perfect style when he duly landed the two-mile contest.

King Of The Hill who was third in the Dingle Derby, jumped out and made every inch of the running to prove himself one of the toughest horses in training.

Dylan O’Connor made the long journey from North Cork worthwhile when Hasta La Vista got the better of a tremendous tussle with Little Man to land the 15hh race.

The pair will surely be at the head of this division again in 2024.

Tipperary jockey Sam Coen gave the locally based Not Too Sure Syndicate their first victory together when taking the mile-and six-furlong non winners’ contest with The Quiet Man.

In a very tactical race, The Quiet Man came from well off the pace to deny the favourite An Baton Rouge and win by three lengths at the line.
