’Board can step up

IT was a thrilling start to the British classic season with Notable Speech landing the Guineas. However, a far more experienced horse caught my eye earlier in the day, writes Page Fuller.Chairmanoftheboard might have forgotten more races than the Guineas winner has run in, but this eight-year-old still looks more than capable of getting his head in front again based on his performance in Saturday’s six-furlong heritage handicap (1.45pm).He didn’t put experience to good use was in the stalls. He was slightly unruly and very slow away. This made him the second slowest out of the stalls, taking 3.03 seconds to reach 20 mph. The winner in comparison got a rapid start, taking 2.43 seconds to get to 20mph. Sectionals tell us Charimanoftheboard was nearly five and a half lengths behind the winner at the end of the first furlong and his poor start can’t have helped.
