IT may not have been the highest quality race of the day on paper, but it will be interesting to see if the form of the two-mile maiden hurdle at Naas on Sunday can throw up any smart prospects, writes Page Fuller.
The winner, Joystick, set the standard going into the race, and got the job done in the end without looking particularly impressive.
His form isn’t going to set the world alight however, so it was the second horse I will be keeping an eye on moving forwards.
Honesty Policy was having his first start over hurdles, and the data suggests he is more than capable of improving for the experience.
He didn’t jump with the most fluency as reflected by his Jump Index of 5.8, and he forfeited nearly three lengths in total to Joystick, through his jumping in the race.
Even at the last, he forfeited 0.9 lengths to Joystick through his average jumping technique. There was also only one horse in the race that scored a Jump Index lower than him.
The sectionals also do a good job of highlighting how he could build on this performance. He made up eight places, three furlongs from home and completed the final half a mile 0.87 seconds quicker than the winner.
He also looked to appreciate the lack of jumps in the final furlong, which he completed 0.34 seconds quicker than the winner as well.
There is every chance that naturally he may not be the most athletic horse, but if he could improve in that department, he could be another smart prospect for the Gorden Elliott team.
