HARRY Cobden kept it so straight forward in the Ascot Chase, it was the Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase that threw up the most interesting data at Ascot on Saturday, writes Page Fuller

Henry’s Friend won this through his slick jumping, gaining a 1.41 length advantage on the field through his jumping against Kilbeg King’s loss of -14.58 lengths. This was particularly evident with his jump at the last where he gained 1.19 lengths on Kilbeg King at that fence alone.

It is very noticeable visually, as Kilbeg King was in front coming into the fence but lost 5.72 mph (compared to Henry’s Friend’s -2.73mph) and took time to get his momentum going again: 1.3 secs to get back up to race pace.

Henry’s Friend may not be good enough to make the step up to Grade 1 level, but off his new mark of 142 he could be one to watch out for in staying handicaps moving forwards.
