More to come from this Sandown victor

WHILST there were many impressive performances at Sandown over the weekend, it was the winner of a less conspicuous race that caught my eye, says Page Fuller.

Cock And Bull made hard work of winning the 17:25 at Sandown on Friday, but there are plenty of reasons to believe there is more to come from this progressive three-year-old.

He is now two from two since stepping up to a mile and fix furlongs, but it was the fashion in which he won that gives me hope he will make light work of the four-pound rise.

He totally missed the start, taking 4.29 seconds to reach 20mph. This then meant he was 1.48 seconds, nearly nine lengths, behind the pacesetter Taritino at the end of the first furlong. Callum Shepherd didn’t panic however and delivered him to perfection up the stiff home straight to get up on the line.

Despite hanging right, he recorded the highest Finishing Speed Percentage of the two-day meeting; 108.96%. This reflects to me the ease with which he was able to quicken up over this trip and I think he probably won it with a touch in hand.
