Browne McMonagle receives suspension

NOT for the first time, a Dylan Browne McMonagle ride caught attention.

An inquiry was held to consider interference entering the first bend in the Copper Horse Handicap Stakes involving A Piece Of Heaven, ridden by Dylan Browne McMonagle, My Mate Mozzie, ridden by Gary Carroll, Gentleman Joe, ridden by Billy Lee, and Beamish, ridden by Luke Morris.

McMonagle was suspended for four days for careless riding as he manoeuvred sharply right-handed when insufficiently clear causing interference to Carroll and the runners on his inside when in a tightly bunched field, resulting in both Lee and Morris having to take a check.

Paul Mulrennan was also given a suspension for the ride on Francisco’s Piece in the Coventry.

Mulrennan was suspended for two days for careless riding as he shifted left-handed shortly after the start when insufficiently clear causing the rider of Yah Mo Be There to take a check.

Declan McDonogh was cautioned for careless riding in the Ascot Stakes on Ndaawi, as he allowed his mount to shift right-handed when insufficiently clear causing Billy Loughnane to take a slight check.

Poor performances

WILLIE Mullins could offer no explanation for the poor performance of My Lyka (17/2), a tailed off 19 of the 20 in the Ascot Stakes. The Veterinary Officer examined the gelding post-race during routine testing and had nothing to report.

Charlie Appleby could also offer no explanation for the performance of Notable Speech in the St James’s Palace Stakes.
