Henry Longfellow (Dubawi-Minding) gave little concerns for connections as he justified 2/9 favouritism in winning the Group 2 Coolmore Stud Wootton Bassett Irish EBF Futurity Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday.

The stable's golden spell of two-year-old performances in 2023 continued with the colt coming home two lengths clear of Joseph O'Brien's Islandsinthestream and a further three clear of stable companion Portland with Ger Lyons' Spanish Flame a bit disappointing in fourth.

The son of the brilliant 1000 Guineas and Oaks heroine had opened his account in style over this course and seven-furlong distance last month and he took command two and a half out under Ryan Moore.

He just had to be kept up to his work to maintain the gap to Islandsinthestream (Wootton Bassett), who gave chase to the line.

Interviewed afterwards on RacingTV, Aidan O'Brien said: "Delighted with him. Ryan was very happy. We couldn't be happier, he looks a very smart colt.

"The plan was to come her and to go to the Dewhurst and the good thing was he learned plenty today. It was a solid pace and he had to travel at pace and he had to quicken.

When Ryan got hold of him and asked him to stretch, he was very happy. They won't go a faster pace than that in the Dewhurst.

Asked on comparisons with impressive Superlative Stakes at Newmarket winner City Of Troy, O'Brien said: "City Of Troy was always going for the National Stakes here, I'm not sure what is between them, they have never been put together yet."
