PURVIEW went into plenty of notebooks after an impressive debut in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C&G) Maiden at Dundalk. Dermot Weld’s Kingman gelding was the subject of support throughout the day, which saw his price contract to 7/4 favourite.

In truth, his backers had few moments of worry, as he picked up the lead after three furlongs and readily asserted in the straight. He was far from troubled in coming home two and three-quarter lengths clear.

Chris Hayes, in the Juddmonte colours, said: “He was ready to run a couple of weeks ago, but he’s a big frame of a horse and we just didn’t think it was the right thing to do to run him on deep ground on the grass.

“He moved beautifully on this surface and he’ll handle a dig in the ground. The better the race, the better he’ll be.

“I’d like to think he is one for the second Derby Trial at Leopardstown - the ground would be a bit nicer. He’ll have a little bit more time to strengthen up.”

Blast off

In-form filly Eclairage blasted away from the stalls and put her rivals to the sword in the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Nursery Handicap over five furlongs.

The 6/4 favourite made all and rolled home by five lengths in the hands of Declan McDonogh for owner Siobhan Murphy. Trainer Danny Murphy said: “She’s really improving that one. She is so quick out of the boxes and she is going places at the minute.

“You would (be tempted to go to Britain), but she lies to the right a little bit - that’s why I always say let her come (down the stands’ side).”

Enfield Bloodstock Syndicate’s Jackie Brown (5/1) just shaded Cross Border by a nose at the end of the Now Racing Every Wednesday At Dundalk Handicap over six furlongs for Enfield Bloodstock Syndicate.

James Ryan sent her on at the furlong pole, but the pair had to withstand a strong challenge from Cross Border, who just failed by the minimum margin.

When asked if he thought she had won, trainer Tony Martin replied: “No, she went by me in front alright, but the last 50 yards, I thought the other lad had nailed us.

“Lucky enough, her head was down on the line. Another stride and the other one was up.”

The only filly in the field, Whispersinthewind beating older geldings under Joey Sheridan \ Healy Racing

WHISPERSINTHEWIND, the sole filly in the William Hill Top Price Guaranteed Rated Race, showed a good turn of foot to beat the geldings.

Donnacha O’Brien’s charge tracked the leaders and was ridden by Joey Sheridan to lead approaching the final furlong. The 11/1 shot forged on nicely to hold 11/4 favourite Hightimeyouwon by three-parts of a length for Mrs A.M. O’Brien.

Sheridan said: “It looked a competitive little race on paper. It was going to be a tough ask for her, being the only filly in the race against older geldings. She had no light weight on her back with 9st 9lb.

“Big thanks to Donnacha, because it is nice to pick up that ride for him when his lads are away.”

Third time lucky

The always-prominent Carolina Jetstream (5/4 favourite) got off the mark at the third time of asking for AMO Racing Limited and Giselle De Aguiar in Division One of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Maiden.

From second halfway, Billy Lee’s mount improved to lead entering the straight and she was always holding Dancing Teapot in the closing stages, as she hit the line with three-quarters of a length in hand.

Adrian Murray said: “Billy said she kept finding and finding, and ground it out the whole way to the line. Going forward, she will tell us where we are going. It is how she does over the winter.”

Winning debut

Empress Artemis cut through the field well to land Division 2 of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden on her racecourse debut.

The 10/1 shot, trained by Mick Halford and Tracey Collins, was backed at much bigger prices in the morning and made a slow start to this mile contest.

She soon raced in mid-division for Ronan Whelan and travelled into contention two furlongs down. The Mehmas filly came through to lead a furlong out and stayed on to beat Permission Tospeak by half a length.

Halford said: “A lovely, big, laid-back filly and we wanted to get a run into her now and see where we were with her going into the winter.

“I’m delighted for her owner Michael Enright, he bred her and he has been a great client of ours. He has been very loyal to us all through the years.”

Autocrat winning under Nicola Burns (blue) who also lost her 10lb claim \ Healy Racing

NICOLA Burns saw her claim cut from 10lb to 7lb after she booted home the third winner of her career on Autocrat in the Norma Crowe 1 Year Memorial Apprentice Handicap. She conjured a run from Autocrat, who ran on well to pip Hurricane Helen by a neck close home.

Dick Donohoe said: “I don’t think he is that easy a ride, as he can be behind the bridle, but he travelled sweetly there today. I thought he mightn’t over that trip. Delighted for the owner (P Sweeney) too, he put his hand up and claimed him here out of a claimer a month or so ago.”

A drop into the basement grade worked the oracle for Enough Already in the Book Online At DundalkStadium.com Handicap for horses that hadn’t finished in the first three on their latest start.

The eight-year-old gelding travelled nicely for Adam Caffrey approaching the final quarter of a mile and further progression saw him lead a furlong out.

The 5/4 favourite stayed to win comfortably by a length and a-half for owner Julie Frankham.

Ado McGuinness said: “When you drop those horses into that grade, it happens plenty of times. They are just better horses than the others.”
