BREEDERS’ Cup winning jockey Wayne Lordan collected three maidens for trainer Aidan O’Brien at Gowran’s two-day meeting on Sunday and Monday.

Juvenile colts provided two of those wins, while juvenile filly January landed Monday’s opening Gowran Park Fillies Maiden over seven furlongs. The Kingman-filly had finished second on debut last month and today raced with the pace and held off the fast-finishing Va Va Vroom by a head.

O’Brien’s representative Chris Armstrong said: “She obviously had a very eye-catching run when Wayne rode her behind a very smart filly on debut and he gave her a lovely ride today. She will improve a lot from coming here as going around a bend is a great education.

“She is probably better going up in trip but Wayne said she will improve a lot. She is definitely a lovely filly for the back-half of the season.”

Armstrong listed the Group 2 Airlie Stud Stakes over six furlongs and Silver Flash Stakes over seven furlongs as possible targets for the winner. Aidan O’Brien has won the last two runnings of both races.

Lordan and O’Brien completed their doubles in the GowranPark.ie Maiden as 84-rated Master Of The Hunt scored on his sixth attempt, when readily beating Shamsuddin by two and three-quarter lengths.

Armstrong said: “It is nice to get a win to his name and in fairness to the horse he has been running consistently in the mid-to-high 80’s all year long. We put the cheekpieces on him to keep him sharp for around here. We’ll look for a handicap or conditions race and let him tip away.”

He added: “In fairness to the man on his back, he is riding in tip-top form and has had a nice couple of winners over the last week or so.

“He goes into Royal Ascot from tomorrow into Saturday and will pick up a lot of second-string rides.”

THE most valuable race on the card was the €17,000 @gowranpark1 On Twitter Fillies Race and saw busy Glor Tire (15/8) complete a quick hat-trick of wins from four recent runs, for trainer/breeder Jim Bolger and his wife, owner Jackie Bolger.

The Teofilo three-year-old showed an admirably willing attitude when battling to make all and beat the fast-finishing Akecheta by a length-and-a-half under Rory Cleary.

Trainer Bolger reported: “We very seldom work her at home and she keeps it all for the track. On the odd occasion that we’d work her, I’d always ask ‘would she get to 100’ and the answer was always ‘yes’; she is getting close to that now.”

“She is very straightforward and we’ll have a look at the Ulster Derby on Saturday. Rory (Cleary) is very happy that she would stay the mile-and-a-half so we’ll see how she is.”

Good form

Champion jockey Colin Keane continued a fine run of form when steering Summer Snow (100/30f) to a second course-and-distance success for trainer Michael O’Callaghan and owner Pat Kelly.

The four-year-old tracked the leaders and led a furlong out, before staying well to beat Scarlet Dancer by a length-and-a-quarter.

Keane commented: “The way she won earlier in the year, she looked like she was well handicapped. While she’s had two disappointing runs, she obviously has a liking for this place.”

“She had the draw (2), jumped and travelled and was able to quicken into the gap when we needed to, and got to the line well. A bit of time between races seems to suit her. She could be a filly to bring to Galway for the owners, who knock great sport out of her.”
