HORSE owners who are running low on fodder due to the prolonged and exceptional wet spring are entitled to apply to the Department of Agriculture for financial assistance.
The Department’s Fodder Transport Support Measure has been opened to equine farmers who have the mandatory equine premises/herd number.
Successful applicants will receive a financial contribution to offset transport costs of hay, fodder beet, straw and silage for feeding, where this involves a distance of more than 75km.
Co-operatives throughout the country will be facilitating the scheme and application forms will be available on the Department’s website shortly.
Applicants must sign a completed application form and a completed Co-op declaration form signed by the co-op.
The scheme offers farmers between €20 and €40 per bale/tonne in transport support.
