Kilbeggan dates replaced

FOLLOWING a request from the Kilbeggan Racecourse Committee, the two-day Kilbeggan fixture scheduled for next Thursday and Friday (April 25th and 26th), will not take place.

Wexford will now race on Thursday evening and Downpatrick race on Friday evening.

In other fixture news, Bellewstown will stage a National Hunt meeting next Wednesday and Gowran Park will stage a flat meeting on Thursday afternoon, May 9th.

Cathal Beale reappointed

THE board of the Irish National Stud has announced that chief executive Cathal Beale has accepted an offer of a contract extension for a further final three-year period, following consultation with the Minister for Agriculture and the Minister for Public Expenditure. Welcoming the decision, INS chairman Dan Flinter said: “We are delighted that Cathal has committed himself to lead the delivery of our strategic plan for a further term “

Coolmore Stud gives fodder to local farmers in need

COOLMORE Stud gave away 1,000 tonnes of silage last week to local farmers who were struggling to source fodder. This initiative was carried out in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, the IFA and Teagasc. There was no charge for the silage but farmers were given the option of making a contribution to the local St Vincent de Paul office.

Enright wins Breeder award

MICHAEL Enright has won the Connolly’s Red Mills/The Irish Field Breeder of the Month award for March. He bred California Spangle, winner of two Group 1 sprints in Hong Kong and Dubai.
