IHWT fodder appeal
THE Irish Horse Welfare Trust (IHWT) has launched a Winter Fodder Appeal and is seeking donations of good quality fodder for the coming winter. Donated fodder needs to be sent to their farm in Co Wicklow as unfortunately the cost of collecting donated fodder very often exceeds the value of the gift.
The huge increase in the costs of fodder in the past two years has become another challenge for the charity. IHWT boss Sharon Power said: “With nearly 70 equines in care, including many thoroughbreds along with cobs and ponies, we use a huge amount of hay and haylage and the rise in these costs has put an additional strain on our already limited resources.
“Alternatively we would ask people to make a donation, no matter how small, through our website.”

Vandeek to stand at Cheveley Park Stud
CHEVELEY Park Stud have announced their purchase of a share in Vandeek, who has been retired ahead of joining their roster for the 2025 season.
Owners KHK Racing remain as partners in the son of Havana Grey, who won the Group 2 Richmond Stakes, Group 1 Prix Morny and Group 1 Middle Park last season. Simon and Ed Crisford’s charge finished third on both his starts as a three-year-old, in the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes and Group 1 July Cup.
Upon announcing their purchase, Cheveley Park Stud revealed that Vandeek suffered a minor soft tissue injury on his latest start, meaning he would not have enough time to run again this season.
