ITBA stages sales prep seminar on Tuesday

SALES consignors and vendors are invited to attend an online sales prep seminar next Tuesday morning organised by the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association. Starting at 10.30am, the workshop will cover all aspects of a good planning programme in advance of the upcoming yearling sales season.

Edie Murray-Hayden of Gormanstown Stud will talk about her sales prep routine, while veterinary surgeon Mark MacRedmond will discuss veterinary maters to consider when selling a yearling.

Nutrition for yearlings is the topic covered by Lorraine Fradl of Connolly’s Red Mills, and farrier Andrew Mahon will also offer some expert advice in his specialist area.

All the in-person places are taken but there are plenty of spaces open for online participation. Registration in advance is essential. Those interested should email Hannah Marks at hmarks@itba.ie or call 045 877543.

Mayson seeks new home

CHEVELEY Park Stud has announced that the stallion Mayson is leaving the Newmarket farm, having been sold outright to part-owner David Armstrong. A winner of the July Cup in his racing days, the now-15-year-old son of Invincible Spirit has stood at Cheveley Park for 11 seasons and his best progeny include Group 1 winners Oxted and Rohaan. His fee this season was £6,000.

Dundalk winner DQ-ed

CO Meath trainer Thomas Grey was fined €1,000 by the Referrals Committee following a positive post-race test returned by El C Wells at Dundalk last November. It was Grey’s first and only winner to-date. Full details of the case have yet to be published but the horse was suspended from racing for 12 months as it is understood the substance detected is prohibited at all times.
