HORSE Racing Ireland [HRI] has tightened up the rules around syndicates and racing clubs who are registered racehorse owners.

Previously clubs and syndicates only had to supply details of how they are managed if requested to do so by HRI.

However, now it is a requirement that the agent in charge provides HRI with a ‘Code of Conduct’ or a copy of the agreement given to members at the initial registration stage.

Each time a new horse is added to the club or syndicate, details of how costs and dividends are divided among members must be forwarded to HRI. Failure to do so will result in the registration of that horse being refused.

As flagged by HRI in its budget announcement earlier in the month, registration fees for owners have all gone up by between 10% and 25%, the first increases in 10 years.

In other updates to HRI directives, flat jockeys have been given a near €5 increase in riding fees to €188.34 while the fee for jump jockeys also goes up by €5 to €215.25.
