THE North Kerry Harriers could be looking for a new venue for their point-to-point in the coming years following news that Tralee Racecourse has been sold.

Ballybeggan Park ceased racing 15 years ago and was sold at that time to developers for a reported €40 million but the deal fell through when the recession hit in 2008. The 100-acre property has lain idle since then but has hosted the North Kerry point-to-point since 2011.

Now the racecourse lands have been bought for just €5 million by the Ard-Rí Group, a local company specialising in homeware and stoves, which plans to build a manufacturing and distribution centre on the site.

As the planning permission process is likely to take time, the annual point-to-point at Tralee Racecourse is expected to go ahead in April or May in 2025. A spokesperson for the North Kerry Harriers said: “As far as we know, there is no change at the moment. The farmer who is the current tenant on the land has no objection to us racing there.”
