1.45 Nando Parrado At The Irish National Stud And Gardens Irish EBF Fillies Maiden 5f

Only one of these six juveniles has run before, so there is an element of guesswork required when trying to solve this puzzle. Donnacha O’Brien gave an upbeat mention to his newcomer Usdi Atohi in a recent At The Races stable tour and the Ten Sovereigns filly makes some appeal on paper. The €150,000 yearling is a sister to the same stable’s five-furlong listed winner at two, Asean, and gets a tentative nod.

Amo Racing and Adrian Murray haven’t been far away with most of their early two-year-old runners together this season so California Dreamer needs respecting. The Mehmas filly cost 130,000gns as a yearling. Cradle Of Love (Joseph O’Brien) also makes some appeal on paper and fetched €170,000 as a yearling.

2.20 Download The New Tote App Fillies & Mares Maiden 7f

It’s arguably difficult to view this maiden as having a huge amount of depth by Curragh standards, and that could point to taking a chance on a newcomer.

The fact that the Coolmore team and Donnacha O’Brien are persisting with Uncanny as an unraced four-year-old might indicate that she has been showing enough to win races, and it will be fascinating to see how the market interprets this Churchill filly.

It’sonlyjustbegun, by the same sire, is another of interest on her introduction for Jessica Harrington. She’s bred to be useful as a half-sister to five-furlong listed winner Flaming Princess. Johnny Murtagh’s Calyx debutante, Glen Princess, is another worth a second look on her first start.

SELECTION: UNCANNY

2.55 Tote.ie Alleged Stakes (Group 3) 1m2f

Quite a decent turnout for this Group 3, and plenty hold chances. White Birch was ready enough to win the Ballysax Stakes on his comeback over this weekend 12 months ago, coping with heavy ground just fine, so he has the potential to do similar this time around in comparable conditions. Last season’s Dante second and Derby third is the highest rated runner in the line-up.

Village Voice might have a bit to find on ratings but she relishes testing ground and won the Listed Salsabil Stakes on her seasonal bow in 2023. Connections could well have been gearing her up for the early window of the campaign, given her ground preference, and a bold bid might be on the cards. The booking of Colin Keane for Layfayette indicates he’s probably the pick of Noel Meade duo and should go well. Greenland is another with form on deep ground who is back from a break. It’s possible the Saxon Warrior colt could be better this season at four than was the case at three last term.

SELECTION: WHITE BIRCH

Sirjack Thomas is a hardened campaigner who can operate to a good level in these conditions and caught the eye last weekend at Cork when third. He is upped in class but races off an attractive weight when factoring in Keithen Kennedy’s 7lb claim. Two of his wins have come at this venue over today’s trip.

It might be the case that he needs this first run in 173 days but Grey Leader is an unexposed type running over his ideal trip on ground he has handled just fine before.

His form could be stronger and the layoff is a concern. However, he might just have more upside than many of these at four. Fast Tara is an interesting stable-switcher to Joseph O’Brien from Johnny Murtagh and has a chance off her current mark on the pick of her form.

SELECTION: SIRJACK THOMAS

4.00 Visit The Irish National Stud & Gardens Maiden 6f

Eclipse Emerald caught the eye in a maiden here last October when second to Samuel Colt and should be a significant player. The third from that contest, Shandy, won a maiden in good style on her return at Cork last weekend in a timely boost for the form. Fozzy Stack, trainer of both Eclipse Emerald and Shandy, has started the turf season well and a big run ought to be on the cards.

Andy Slattery is another handler with his string in a good place on the basis of a listed winner at Naas and a double at Cork last Saturday. Ojw Legacy hinted at winning potential last season and can be involved at the business end if able to cope with ground as testing as this. Follow Me is a lively addition to the Ross O’Sullivan team, also among the winners last week.

The French recruit was picked up for €170,000 in November and begins life in Ireland with a mark of 93 - that would be good enough to win the majority of sprint maidens in this country. He has run well on ground with an ease and should be getting off the mark before long if it isn’t today.

It’s tough to get away from Evening Blossom after a promising debut here last autumn when third to the highly exciting Porters Place. That form looks particularly strong. Aidan O’Brien-trained runner-up Greenfinch won a maiden on her next start, as did the sixth-placed Wendla (Ger Lyons/Juddmonte) and seventh-placed Everlasting (Aidan O’Brien/Coolmore). Even the ninth, Anvika, finished second to Take Me To Church next time before winning a Dundalk maiden for Sheila Lavery.

Lady Doris made a decent debut at Dundalk in October for Donnacha O’Brien and has the potential to improve this season as a half-sister to Realtra, who was better than ever when winning Group 3s at the age of five. Ballydoyle newcomer Opaque commands obvious respect and is worth a market check.

5.05 Tote Never Beaten By SP Handicap 6f

A field that consists of many of the usual characters you’ll find in sprint handicaps at this venue. Stag Night had the measure of Two Stars when winning at Cork last Saturday, providing 10lb claimer Danny Power with a first success, and there should be little between the pair at the head of affairs again, with both well able to deal with testing ground.

Laugh A Minute, a triple-course winner, is dangerous to underestimate in these conditions and split the aforementioned pair in third on his comeback here last month. He didn’t get a clear run on that occasion and is favoured to get the verdict this time, especially since he meets Stag Night on 5lb better terms (finished half a length behind him here last time) and 2lb better terms with Two Stars (finished a nose in front of him). He has a big chance.

A competitive handicap to send punters home and Joseph O’Brien could provide the answer if Carlo Bianconi is sharp enough to defy his inexperience. A mark of 78 looks reasonable for him after two second-place efforts to begin his career, and the form of his last start at Dundalk got a boost when the winner, Squire Dannagher, followed up in a handicap off 77. Stepping up to a mile and a half for the first time also has the potential to bring out improvement in the Galiway gelding.

Neptunes Staircase, representing Ger Lyons, rattled the crossbar in a maiden here when last seen in November and could improve beyond his introductory mark of 78. Nostringsattached lacks a recent run but is proven on today’s type of ground, and at this track.
