1.20 Irish EBF Median Sires

Series Maiden 1m

Surfers Paradise can win his maiden at the third time of asking. The Joseph O’Brien-trained colt was a promising fourth on his debut at this track in August, before improving to finish runner-up at Tipperary last time. Although potentially vulnerable to a newcomer, the son of Ten Sovereigns has the benefit of previous experience to call upon.

Marty The Party was a place behind the O’Brien colt at Tipperary but should be sharper now that he has had a run. Trainer Fozzy Stack tends to leave a bit to work on with his juveniles, so it would be no surprise to see his representative get closer here.

SELECTION: SURFERS PARADISE

Next best: Marty The Party

1.50 Pat “The Duke” Leavy Irish EBF Maiden 7f

Taraj can continue a fine season for trainer Dermot Weld by getting off the mark here. The Churchill colt shaped with plenty of promise when fourth on his racecourse debut at this track last month. Indeed, granted a clearer passage when travelling well over two furlongs out, he may easily have been involved in the finish.

Gasper De Lemos ran very green and gave the distinct impression he would improve considerably for the experience when fourth at Leopardstown first time out. The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt is sure to be much sharper on this occasion.

SELECTION: TARAJ

Next best: Gasper De Lemos

2.25 Weld Park Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies) 7f

The Ger Lyons-trained Sakti looks the one to beat in a competitive affair. Runner-up to the reopposing Brilliant on her racecourse debut at Leopardstown in July, she gave the impression that in time she could improve past that winner. Pitched straight into Group 2 company at this track last month, the daughter of Caravaggio ran a huge race in finishing second.

Brilliant had already raced twice before beating Sakti at Leopardstown, so may not have as much scope for improvement. However, the Aidan O’Brien trained filly has since run with credit in blacktype races.

SELECTION: SAKTI

Renaissance Stakes (Group 3) 6f

Go Athletico will find this easier, having finished runner-up to Group 1 winners on his latest two starts. Ado McGuinness’s five-year-old had looked a smart sprinter when making a successful Irish debut at Cork in June and has done nothing in subsequent outings to dispel that belief. Well drawn close to the rail, he should prove hard to beat.

Shartash was well supported in the Phoenix Stakes here last time but lost all chance when rearing badly as the stalls opened. Allowed to coast home at the back of the field, he is better judged on his previous run at Newbury.

SELECTION: GO ATHLETICO

Next best: Shartash

3.35 Fitzpatrick’s Garage Group Nursery Handicap 7f

Vestigia could be well treated here off a mark of 75. The Sheila Lavery-trained colt has run well in two of the big sales races this season, particularly when finishing fast over six and a half furlongs here last time. Much of his early career has most likely been dictated by the fact he was qualified to run in those aforementioned races. Now that he steps up in trip for the first time, he has to be of interest.

Barley Cove, who finished in front of Vestigia when the pair met at this track last month, has to be a contender. Although bred to be a sprinter, he has been seeing out his races well, so is certainly worth chancing over this trip.

SELECTION: VESTIGIA

Next best: Barley Cove

4.10 Friends Of The Curragh Irish Cesarewitch 2m124y

Tower Of London could well emulate last year’s winner from the same stable despite having to carry over a stone more. However, while the 2022 winner was an improving handicapper at the foot of the weights, Tower Of London is already a proven Group 1 horse who finished fourth in the St Leger just over a week ago. The fact that connections are anxious to bring him back so quickly suggests that they feel he could be well handicapped.

My Mate Mozzie catches the eye towards the bottom of the handicap. Runner-up in the November Handicap last season, the Gavin Cromwell-trained gelding was third in the Galway Hurdle last time, so arrives here in peak form.

SELECTION: TOWER OF LONDON

Next best: My Mate Mozzie

4.45 Friends Of The Curragh

Pollardstown Handicap 2m124y

Almuhit may be able to defy top weight under Billy Lee in this finale. The Adrian Joyce-trained gelding has run really well on his last two visits to the Curragh and has been dropped 1lb in the ratings despite winning at Killarney last time. On that occasion, the son of Sea The Stars showed that stamina was his forte, when staying on from an impossible position to land the spoils.

Maze Runner has yet to reach peak form this season but the eight-year-old is a capable performer at this level. Trainer Willie Mullins always commands respect in staying handicaps on the flat so it may well be significant that he relies on just the one runner.

SELECTION: ALMUHIT
