The Noel Meade-trained Faulty can make the most of the weight he receives from the previous winners in this field.

Runner-up in similar company at Punchestown last month, the seven-year-old looks well placed to go one better. With two of his stronger bumper efforts coming at this particular track, he will appreciate the return.

Lightkeeper finished a place behind the Meade gelding last time, so has a bit of work to do in order to reverse the placing. However, he has been a consistent sort since going hurdling so is entitled to be involved.

A four-time winner in recent months, Cave Court catches the eye on his return to hurdling.

The Noel Kelly-trained seven-year-old won his first two starts over flights this season, before adding a further brace over fences. Off a hurdles mark which is 15lb lower, he should prove difficult to beat on a track where he has been successful previously.

Top-weight Redstone made a hugely impressive racecourse debut when beating a smart horse on his hurdling debut at Fairyhouse in October. He is almost certainly a lot better than his subsequent sixth at that same venue and a mark of 125 could seriously underestimate him.

Fairly Bold has obviously had his problems given two rather long absences during his career but if the Philip Rothwell-trained gelding is ready for this return he looks one capable of going close.

Two mid-division finishes in his initial forays into handicap company early last year read better than the bare form suggests, as his jumping let him down on both occasions.

Silent Flight has to be respected as the only recent winner in the race. Philip Byrne’s gelding was raised 9lb for that success but the fact he remained in the bottom grade had to please connections.

A race that revolves around the Tony Martin-trained Pralognan. A winner over a mile on the level in France, the gelding showed little in three starts over hurdles but improved significantly once reverting to the flat. Whether he has the stamina for this trip on testing ground is open to question but he looks seriously well handicapped if doing so.

The booking of Jack Kennedy on locally-trained mare Stockdale very much catches the eye. The eight-year-old has dropped considerably in the handicap since gaining her sole career success but has shaped well on more than one occasion recently.

Classic Getaway looks the most solid option in a race where most of the leading contenders have something to prove.

Although the Willie Mullins-trained gelding was pulled up on his most recent outing at Leopardstown, that run is readily forgiven as a bad mistake early in the race left him with little chance. The eight-year-old is better judged on his two earlier runs this season.

Roi Mage almost certainly has the Grand National as his main target this year but it would be disappointing if he can’t show a lot more than when tailed off at Tramore in January.

He was well behind Classic Getaway at the County Waterford track but in his defence, such a tight track wouldn’t have been ideal.

Joshua Webb can reward connections patience by gaining a first win over fences. A smart horse in his younger days, the now nine-year-old was off the track for 572 days before making his comeback at this track last November.

Although understandably needing the run on that occasion, his subsequent placed efforts have hinted that his turn is near.

So Des Flos will appreciate dropping back to what is arguably his optimum distance having been campaigned over further on recent starts. If this race turns into a test of stamina he has to enter calculations.

The lightly-raced Romeo Magico can take this for trainer Emmet Mullins. A point-to-point winner at Castlelands last March, the six-year-old made a winning debut under rules when landing a hunter chase at Limerick over Christmas. He then arguably ran as well as he was entitled to do when runner-up to one of the leading hunter chasers at Thurles in January.

Global Assembly looks the chief danger. Trainer David Christie has a strong team of young horses in this discipline, so the fact he relies on the Kayf Tara gelding here could be significant.

Half Past Tipsy should prove hard to beat for Gavin Cromwell in this finale. A point-to-point winner at Quakerstown in November, that form received a significant boost when the runner-up was beaten just a neck in a winners’ bumper at Newbury on her British debut. It would be a surprise if there is anything of that quality amongst this opposition.

Trainer Eoin McCarthy does well with his runners in this discipline, so the fact he makes the long journey from Co Limerick with Remma could be significant. His only runner at this meeting, the five-year-old still led when falling on her only point-to-point start in January.
