The Gordon Elliott-trained gelding made a very promising debut last November but hasn’t gone on from that in three subsequent starts. He won’t get an easier opportunity to shed his maiden status, so really should be winning this.

She Is A Contender lacks a recent run but looks the chief threat. A former winning point-to-pointer, she has already been placed twice over hurdles and will appreciate stepping back up in trip.

Rodney Bay can put his previous experience to good use against some lesser-exposed rivals. Joseph Murray’s five-year-old has been placed on a couple of occasions already, as well as showing up prominently in some big field maidens. Having already shown he handles similar tight right-handed tracks, he should enjoy the unique test of Downpatrick.

Downtown Queen has a bit to find on official ratings but has also shown up well in maiden hurdles so shouldn’t be too far away. A repeat of her Clonmel second would probably be good enough.

Hurricane Georgie should be difficult to beat in her attempt to further exploit a lenient hurdles rating. Much improved since switching to fences, she took advantage of a lower mark when reverting to flights last time. A previous winner at this track over fences, she is very well treated in the context of this race, especially with a 7lb claimer aboard.

Queen Jane was impressive when winning her maiden hurdle over course and distance last time. She is thoroughly unexposed and could be well treated but might just be unfortunate to bump into one here.

Dollar Value could be hard to peg back if allowed to build up too much of a lead. Tom McCourt’s grey can be very smart when on song, jumping and travelling well at the head of affairs. Although somewhat in and out of late, the return to this venue may just reignite his interest and encourage him to put his best foot forward.

Mr Moondance is also interesting on his reappearance as some of his best form has come at this track. He seldom runs a bad race when faced with the twists and turns around here.

Lieutenant Highway showed real battling qualities to win at Clonmel last time, fighting back bravely after being headed. A similar effort from the front should make him very difficult to beat and he has the added advantage of his promising young riders claim. Corey McGivern, who has already ridden four winners in Britain, is getting some nice opportunities of late.

Minella Youngy went close in a four-year-old maiden hurdle at Tipperary last time but has plenty on his plate at these weights. However, his rider’s 5lbs is significant in a race of this nature, so he has to be considered.

Thefaithfulindian can capitalise on a very lenient mark over hurdles. Aidan Howard’s mare won three times on the flat but had shown nothing over flights prior to her most recent start. A second placed finish at Punchestown on her reappearance suggested that she may now be able to go on and run up a sequence over hurdles.

Drumbaragh showed huge improvement when winning at Down Royal last time. The handicapper has had his say in the interim but it is difficult to say how much the mare had up her sleeve.

Walk In The Brise should be able to get her turn at the fourth time of asking. Willie Mullins’s grey mare has finished second on each of her starts to date but was just unfortunate to bump into some above average opponents. The daughter of Walk In The Park has done little wrong and looks the one they all have to beat.

Saratoga Lass was behind the Mullins mare at Fairyhouse in April but caught the eye when staying on late at Punchestown on her next start. If she has improved further from that latest run then she is entitled to be a live contender.
