Favori Du Champdou is another nice prospect. He finished behind Affordale Fury in that aforementioned Punchestown Grade 1 but did most of his better work at this time last season, reeling off three wins in a row on soft ground at Thurles and Limerick. Franciscan Rock is another to consider, providing he is none the worse for a fall at Gowran on his chase/seasonal debut. He was still challenging Letsbeclearaboutit at the time.

SELECTION: AFFORDALE FURY

Brampton Belle might end up a little underrated. Henry de Bromhead’s mare disappointed when last seen but her two efforts prior to that, a third to Temptationinmilan at Navan and a fourth to Notice To Close at Punchestown, read well in the context of this race. She only has five starts over fences and has gone well fresh before, so she may have a little leeway off a mark of 123.

The Dabbler has run well over this course and distance, and notably finished fourth in the last two renewals of the Blazers Handicap Chase. He’s handicapped to go well again. Emancipator is dangerous also, coming off the back of a comfortable seasonal debut win at Gowran.

SELECTION: BRAMPTON BELLE

Captain Jimmy bids to win this race for the third year in a row but he may be thwarted by the horse he just beat last season, My Friend The Wind. Eric McNamara’s gelding comes here in good form, having won and finished third on his two recent starts, both at Ballinrobe. He was conceding 6lb to Captain Jimmy here 12 months ago but will receive 4lb off him on this occasion.

This should be more manageable for Teescomponentsyess, who has been taking on good horses in beginners’ chases. His opening chase mark is 8lb lower than his hurdles assessment.

Mint Boy made an encouraging return to action by winning his maiden hurdle at Gowran Park and he can make it two from two for the campaign here. The £195,000 purchase failed to pull up many trees in two bumpers and a maiden hurdle last term, but he was a different proposition at Gowran, staying on strongly to beat Zaidi on the line. The demands of this track and ground should suit him fine.

Free Flowing caused a mini upset by beating Olympic Man in a maiden here earlier in the month and promises more now, coming back up in trip. Sequestered is another to consider after a solid effort in defeat behind multiple winner High Class Hero at Listowel.

This should be straightforward for Search For Glory. Gordon Elliott’s gelding has very smart novice hurdle form in the book, having finished third to Good Land in a Leopardstown maiden hurdle and he was just a length and a half off Monty’s Star in a Grade 3 contest at Clonmel.

Maybe Alvarez Eclipse can fare best of the rest in a weak contest. Declan Queally’s gelding showed some ability when finishing fourth in a Cork maiden hurdle in July.

Barnacullia could be nicely handicapped back over hurdles, competing off a mark of 119. He’s 136 over fences, earning that assessment with a fine effort in defeat behind Fighting Fit at Listowel, the same horse he was second at this course at the summer festival. He has been in really good form since that effort and given he is a previous course winner, he has plenty going for him.

Ladybank is an interesting handicap hurdle debutante. Henry de Bromhead’s mare did well to force a dead-heat with Princess Zoe earlier this year. She was highly tried in her two runs since that but runs here off 121. Canal End is also noted on his handicap hurdle debut. He was last seen winning a maiden hurdle at the Fairyhouse Easter Festival.

Race fitness might sway things for Glens Lullaby. The daughter of top class mare Glens Melody made a pleasing start to her career when a close up third at Tipperary earlier this month and she is entitled to improve from that experience.

Field A Thistles probably has the most noteworthy form, having finished fourth to Brighterdaysahead in the George Mernagh at Fairyhouse. She will be a big threat on seasonal debut, while Royal Cave ran reasonably well when third to Arctic Gale at Fairyhouse just over three weeks ago and can go well again.
