Grosser Dallmayr-Preis - Bayerisches Zuchtrennen (Group 1)

A HIGH class “European” field of seven line up in the first German all-aged Group 1 over 10 furlongs at Munich.

The 2022 German Derby winner Sammarco and winner of this race last season, heads the home team but is joined by this year’s impressive Deutsches Derby winner Fantastic Moon.

Sammarco has been disappointing on his two outings this season, only managing fourth last time in a Group 2.

Godolphin enjoy a lot of success in Germany and Charlie Appleby runs one of the better three-year-olds of last year in Nations Pride. He picked up two Grade 1s at Saratoga and Belmont Park last year and was last seen running third to Lord North in the Group 1 Dubai Turf at Meydan in March.

French stables are represented by the Jerome Reynier eight-year-old gelding Skalleti. He may be on the decline from his Group 1-winning days with his one win from three this season coming by a head in a Group 2 at the Capannelle in Rome in May.

Nations Pride looked tough and genuine last year and on his best form should add to his stable’s record but it will be fascinating to see how the Sarah Steinberg-trained Deutsches Derby winner Fantastic Moon fares against this opposition, given he has been so impressive in the classic and on his previous trial win. The son of Sea The Moon is a possible for the Irish Champions Stakes.

Also on the card, our late German correspondent David Conolly-Smith is remembered in the race title, the Dallmayr Coupe Lukull - David Conolly-Smith-Memorial.
