1.42 Sea Moon & Jukebox Jury At Burgage Maiden Hurdle 2m

A tricky opener but perhaps Pigeon House can belatedly get off the mark for Jessica Harrington who has booked Paul Townend for a rare ‘outside’ ride. The son of Saxon Warrior is winless from seven starts over hurdles but has finished second four times and his two best runs have come on his latest two starts, when fourth to Intellotto at Leopardstown and second to Highwind at Punchestown.

On that latest start, he had Lark In The Morning in behind him in third. Joseph O’Brien’s horse has been touted as a Boodles contender and was subject of much interest last week at Naas before he was a late scratching. Off a British mark of 122, he should get into that Festival race, so winning here may not be the be all and end all. Barrier was one other to note. Gordon Elliott’s horse was no match for stabelmate Ndaawi at Naas previously but made significant late gains from off the pace to finish second and may step forward now.

SELECTION: PIGEON HOUSE

Next best: Lark In The Morning

2.17 Red Mills Trial Hurdle (Grade 3) 2m

This is a poor renewal with just five runners set to line up with a real lack of depth of quality. Lantry Lady is a potential smart mare. She won very well here just over a year ago, posting a reasonable time, but she hasn’t been seen since, and you probably can’t take it for granted that she will have progressed from that mares’ maiden hurdle win. What’s Up Darling has to concede a stone to her, but comes here race fit and with proven ability at a high level – he was fifth to Farren Glory when last seen in the Grade 1 Royal Bond Novice Hurdle. Ridden more forcefully here, he ought to take all the beating.

The remaining trio have plenty to find but this is a fine opportunity to take home some nice prize money. Doyen Ta Win didn’t disgrace himself in the big two-mile handicap hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival and looks in prime position for the minor honours.

SELECTION: WHAT’S UP DARLING

2.52 Full Circle Series Qualifier Handicap Hurdle 2m 4f 20yds

This looks a good quality contest and a likely lively betting heat. Luminous Light should be towards the head of the market after two really strong runs in defeat in December. Anthony McCann’s gelding was second to Waterford Whispers and Answer To Kayf in a Fairyhouse two-and-a-half-mile novice hurdle, form which looks very strong now, and then found only Your Honor too good in a two-mile handicap hurdle at Limerick. Back up to this trip should suit him.

Rebel Early is big player here on the basis of her head second to Da Capo Glory last time at Cork but Alpesh Amin may be better placed to put up a bigger effort. Eric McNamara’s gelding is another arriving here in top form having chased home Jody Ted in a Pertemps qualifier at Punchestown and then found only Cato’s Revenge too good at Limerick over today’s trip.

SELECTION: LUMINOUS LIGHT

Next best: Alpesh Amin

3.27 Red Mills Chase (Grade 2) 2m 4f

Saint Sam should take all the beating. Willie Mullins’ talented chaser hasn’t been seen since he came down at the last in a match race at Listowel in September - he had the winning of that contest over the useful Visionarian - but he has a really good record fresh, having scored on his seasonal debut for the previous two seasons. A rating of 159 has him clear at the weights here and this sort of small field and ground conditions suit him well.

Riviere D’etel is out again quickly having finished second to Allegorie De Vassy in the Listed Opera Hat at Naas last Saturday. Going right handed and a return to this track should suit her well. Lucid Dreams is the likely pace angle, but could easily return to form. He was well held last time in the Leopardstown Chase but appeals as another to appreciate this smaller field.

SELECTION: SAINT SAM

Next best: Riviere D’etel

4.02 Gowran Park Golf Club Beginners Chase 2m 4f

Paul Townend has opted to ride the much touted Spanish Harlem out of the Willie Mullins trio entered here but perhaps there wasn’t much in the decision between that six-year-old and Aime Desjy. That nine-year-old has a standout piece of form having chased homed Corbetts Cross, Three Card Brag, Monty’s Star and Nick Rockett in a Fairyhouse beginners’ chase earlier in the season – he was 10 lengths off the winner and 20 lengths clear of the sixth home. If he can replicate that level of form, he is the one to beat. Spanish Harlem finished in behind Saint Felicien, who opposes again, when the pair were third and second to Tactical Move over this course and distance last month. Both of those horses have promised much but yet to really deliver for their respective trainers, but still have a good level of form and should be involved again.

SELECTION: AIME DESJY

Next best: Saint Felicien

4.35 Careys Cottage Handicap Chase 2m 4f

Bushmans Pass can complete a hat-trick for Oliver McKiernan. A lightly-raced eight-year-old, he has progressed nicely after his three opening runs, winning smoothly on handicap debut from Rolly Bowley Boy, who opposes again here, and then scoring off a 10lb higher mark with a strong staying performances over two miles and five furlongs at Fairyhouse. He is up 13lb for that effort but the form has already been boosted by the runner-up winning since and the conditions should be in his favour today.

You can make a solid case for the consistent Rolly Bowley Boy, especially considering he is much better off on weight terms with the main selection, but although his consistency is admirable, his progression has only been gradual. He definitely appeals as a solid each-way option. The most intriguing runner is the former Albert Bartlett third Bardenstown Lad who will make his debut for Gavin Cromwell. His form tailed off for his previous trainer John McConnell but a mark of 127 looks attractive now if he can get a new lease of life.

SELECTION: BUSHMANS PASS

Next best: Rolly Bowley Boy

5.05 Ronan Lawlor Memorial EBF Flat Race 2m 1f

Willie and Patrick Mullins have been beaten here with three odds-on favourites in the last six years but will surely strike soon and it may well come with debutant Flashaway. The daughter of Grade 1 winner Voler La Vedette may well be very useful.

Of those with experience, Cathedral Rocks showed up well in a Cork bumper last month and may well progress from that.
