1.42 Irish EBF Auction Series Fillies Maiden 7f

There was a high degree of promise to be taken from the debut effort of Canto Della Terra when second at Fairyhouse for Ado McGuinness, and it’s interesting to see she has been snapped up by new connections to join Donnacha O’Brien since. The form of that maiden hasn’t worked out to be anything special, but the first two did pull clear and the runner-up has yet to run since. This Kodiac filly looks a useful type with the ability to win a maiden.

There are some interesting newcomers on paper, including the Paddy Twomey-trained Dazzling Angel, who has a 98-rated sibling. Kevin Coleman struck with an 80/1 debut winner at Leopardstown on Thursday so his debutante Shining River demands some respect.

SELECTION: CANTO DELLA TERRA

Eriskay showed up well when third in a sprint handicap at Naas recently and could be worth another look now at seven furlongs. With an official rating of 47, she is certainly one of the stable’s lesser lights but that was a solid reappearance from 276 days on the sidelines, beaten only a half length and short-head. The half-sister to useful stablemate Taraj seems to be at her best on good ground and conditions should be in her favour here, albeit some caution is required given she isn’t a frequent winner (1-19 record).

Shaaden was a minor eyecatcher here last time for trainer Pat Flynn and returns from low four. Blue Wood is up 10lb for a last-time-out success at Down Royal, while Golden Days is no back number for Mick Halford and Tracey Collins.

It was Baalbec Beauty’s first run since January when a close-up fourth here last month and a bold bid should be on the cards if naturally improving from that run. She’s drawn well in stall four and has very few miles on the clock for a six-year-old. Ben Coen maintains the partnership and she should go close.

On Our Radar was just touched off last time at Killarney and is running well enough to get his turn again before long. The first-time cheekpieces could eke out some improvement, though a wide draw in stall 14 isn’t ideal. Miqdaad was a minor eyecatcher a couple of starts ago and could run well at a big price but he needs to show more than last time in a Dundalk claimer.

Kinesiology might be able to continue a fine week’s work for Jessica Harrington and Shane Foley by winning the first running of this listed race at Gowran Park. He’s only had four starts and was just touched off last time by Portland in a race of the same grade at Leopardstown last month. He looks an improved performer at three, ought to have no issue with decent ground and a mark of 104 puts him in a solid position.

Neski Sherelski looks to be on the up after his Royal Ascot second but still has a fair deal to find on official figures. The Euphrates will appreciate dropping in class after some tough tests at Royal Ascot and in the Irish Derby, while Bellezza might be the likeliest to upset the selection after back-to-back listed seconds on her last two starts for Ger Lyons. Duraji is a promising type for Dermot Weld but is light on experience compared to some.

Fillies Maiden 1m

Eternal Reign has started her career with two creditable efforts in defeat and could be able to put it all together to land this mile maiden for fillies. A well-bred daughter of Invincible Spirit, she caught the eye on debut when quickening up well in fifth after the bird had flown in front, and there was no shame in finishing third to Red Viburnum at Naas last time. She has to turn the tables on Evening Blossom, having finished a length and a half behind her last time, but she’s more lightly raced than that rival and remains open to improvement. Eternal Reign probably got further back than ideal on that occasion and must go close if the race unfolds more kindly for her here from a positive draw in stall four.

SELECTION: ETERNAL REIGN

Next best: Evening Blossom

4.30 Gowran Park Handicap 1m

Since being well placed to win a valuable pot on Good Friday at Lingfield, Jessica Harrington’s Raknah has been set stiffer tasks than she’s likely to face here and a first win since that Easter victory could be on the cards. It was a big effort from her when seventh in the 30-runner Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot and she wasn’t disgraced back at the Curragh on Derby weekend when sixth. With the stable in fine form, another bold showing should be on the cards.

Several hold chances, however, and Vivienda ought to be on the premises for Colin Keane and Ger Lyons after a breakthrough win at Fairyhouse last time over seven furlongs. Stepping up to a mile is an unknown, but decent ground will help her cause at this distance. The form of Elegant Madame’s recent Dundalk second got a boost when Tokenomics followed up at Leopardstown on Thursday in a higher grade, and she rates a lively player too.

Handicap 1m 1f 110yds

Raised 5lb for winning at Cork last time, Barretstown gets a tentative vote to follow up here for Conor O’Dwyer. Wesley Joyce is a positive booking for this apprentice-only contest and this six-year-old has often run well with a little freshness, returning from just under 10 weeks off. He has a decent draw to work with in stall four, especially for one who won from the front last time.

She’s been frustrating to follow but Jeaniemacaroney will hopefully have taken some confidence from a first win over hurdles at Roscommon 19 days ago and is dangerous in this basement grade for a top team. Molly Hall needs respecting after her recent Killarney success.

SELECTION: BARRETSTOWN

5.35 SP Or Better With The Tote Race 1m 1f 110yds

Snellen has been in fine form lately and this looks a good spot for her to make it two wins in the space of three runs, fresh from a cracking second in the valuable Nasrullah Handicap at Leopardstown. She’s at the right end of the weights and, if she sees out this extra distance, should be bang there for Gavin Cromwell and Gary Carroll.

Shayzann was right behind the selection last time but it’s not ideal that he’s 5lb worse off now. Star Kissed has been running well enough to get on the scoresheet for 2024, while Quar Shamar is an interesting stable switcher to Emmet Mullins. He can blow hot and cold and has been out of sorts lately, but he had some quality form last season for Jessica Harrington and should appreciate the drop in grade.

SELECTION: SNELLEN

Next best: Quar Shamar
