12.40 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Paddy Mullins Mares Handicap Hurdle (Listed) 2m 2f

This prize has been plundered by some graded-class mares in recent years, including Cheltenham Festival heroines Black Tears and Heaven Help Us, so a touch of class is certainly welcomed when trying to find the winner. Risk Belle, who collected in Grade 3 company two starts ago before finding Jetara too strong here over Christmas, should relish returning to handicap company and can make amends for her fall in this race 12 months ago when sent off the 5/2 favourite.

Foxy Girl has been threatening to win one of these valuable handicaps for a while so wouldn’t be winning out of turn if this falls her way. Minx Tiara ran well at a huge price over the festive period and could go well again now reverting to her own sex category, while Feet Of A Dancer looked an improved performer when winning at the Fairyhouse Winter Festival and could have more to offer despite a 12lb hike.

Leopardstown Handicap Chase

(Grade 3) 2m 5f 107yds

Gordon Elliott knows what it takes to win this race with a novice, having struck here last year with The Goffer, and a chance is taken on the stable’s Cool Survivor getting his act together to capitalise on a potentially attractive mark of 135 (running off just 10st). The Goffer had just four previous runs over fences before landing this contest, and had disappointed on his final start before the Dublin Racing Festival, and the selection isn’t entirely dissimilar with three chasing runs and a below-par showing last time. He showed definite promise when only beaten a neck by Quilixios on his seasonal bow at Limerick - form that looks smart now - and then finished fourth in a hot beginners’ chase won by Gaelic Warrior at Punchestown, with the useful Inothewayurthinkin second. That Gavin Cromwell-trained novice also warrants major respect here after finishing a seven-length third in the Grade 1 Faugheen Novice Chase over Christmas. As for the more battle-hardened types involved, James Du Berlais ran a cracker when third in the Paddy Power here in December and ought to relish the drop back in trip. A 14lb swing at the weights from that clash with Meetingofthewaters makes him highly interesting.

SELECTION: COOL SURVIVOR

Handicap Hurdle (Listed) 2m

A 9lb rise for winning what looked a competitive handicap hurdle here in December might not be enough to halt the progress of One Last Tango for Eoin Griffin and J.P. McManus. He’s still at the right end of the weights with 10st 12lb on his back and arguably wouldn’t have wanted the ground so testing when he won on heavy here last time. Reverting to better conditions ought to bring the best out of him.

The same owner’s Zenta is a fascinating runner back over hurdles, having finished third to smart mares Silent Approach and Harmonya Maker on her only start over fences this season in a Grade 2 at Cork. A winner of the Grade 1 Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle at Aintree last season, and third in the Triumph Hurdle behind Lossiemouth, she is worth paying attention to off a mark of 138, especially if market support arrives. Magical Zoe is another with the potential to be better than her mark of 137.

SELECTION: ONE LAST TANGO

4.25 Coolmore N.H. Sires “Hurricane Lane” Irish EBF Mares I.N.H. Flat Race (Grade 2) 2m

A surprise result shouldn’t be out of the question in the final race of the weekend, given there have been 16/1, 18/1, 25/1 and 40/1 winners among the past six renewals. Barnahash Primrose was well supported when making a winning debut at Limerick over the festive period and gets a tentative each-way vote at the likely prices, in the hope she will cope with this much better ground than last time for Jonathan Sweeney. The runner-up from that occasion, Harrys Annie, finished second to the well-touted Maughreen on her next start so the immediate form of those involved in the finish could be reasonably sound.

Willie Mullins has an army of smart mares to represent him, and the fact that the champion amateur has sided with Facile Vega’s unbeaten, listed-winning sister Aurora Vega indicates she’s the pick of them. That said, Baby Kate - the first foal out of Grade 1 winner Augusta Kate - is no slouch and showed a likeable attitude to win a listed bumper at Cheltenham last time.

SELECTION: BARNAHASH PRIMROSE
