12.19 Goggin Buckley Mares Maiden Hurdle 2m 4f

The three top yards are represented here in what could be an informative mares maiden hurdle. Both Gordon Elliott’s Pallas Athene and Henry de Bromhead’s Garde La Peche are point-to-point winners, but the form of both their races is average at best. That may a moot point given they’ve had plenty of top-class conditioning since, but perhaps the Willie Mullins-trained Judicieuse Allen is best equipped for now. She was second in a conditions hurdle at Pau, where she showed her aptitude to handling heavy ground, which could be useful come Wednesday. She has since changed hands for €100,000 and may be able to make a winning start for the champion trainer.

Memorial Maiden Hunters Chase 2m 6f 120yds

David Christie and Barry O’Neill won this last season with Ultimate Optimist and they may be able to win it again with a horse who has a similarly unexposed profile in the shape of Hathaways Cottage. The son of Mahler won by 24 lengths on his previous run at Ballindenisk and that was just his fourth start, so he has loads of scope to improve further.

There are plenty of dangers in this big field, with Ian Donoghue’s John The Spark among them. The six-year-old has won both of his starts at Moira and Tattersalls Farm this term, and may well be able to make his presence felt.

SELECTION: HATHAWAYS COTTAGE

1.27 McMahons Irish EBF Dawn Run Mares Novice Chase

(Grade 2) 2m 6f 120yds

This looks a match between Harmonya Maker and Hauturiere. The pair met in a two-mile Grade 2 at Cork recently and it was the former who came out on top when second to Silent Approach, with Hauturiere back in third. However, there are reasons to be optimistic that Willie Mullins’s mare can reverse the form. At Cork, she was having her first run of the season, while Harmonya Maker had an advantage of race fitness, and this rematch is six furlongs further in trip. That isn’t a negative for Harmonya Maker but it may be more a positive for Hauturiere, who is a winner over two miles and five furlongs and notably only found stablemate Eabha Grace too good at this trip and track over hurdles last season.

SELECTION: HAUTURIERE

2.02 Party Time Hurdle 2m 4f

This race often suits a chaser coming back over hurdles and for all that Noble Yeats does his best work at three miles plus, he has the class to get the job done back in trip and on his seasonal debut. Emmet Mullins’s gelding, the 2022 Grand National winner, had a rock-solid season last term, finishing fourth in the Gold Cup and Grand National. He has won on his seasonal debut before and he’d have to underperform significantly here not to at the very least go close.

No Time To Wait is his likely main rival. Gordon Elliott’s five-year-old won a Cork maiden hurdle in fine style and has the scope to progress again, with the step up in trip a possible aid to his cause.

SELECTION: NOBLE YEATS

2.37 Grant Thornton Ladies Handicap Hurdle 2m 4f

Farmix is an intriguing runner here for Liz Doyle, reappearing off a 1046-day gap. He was a smart performer, hitting a mark of 140 over fences, so he is interesting here off 119 back over hurdles, but it’s a big ask for him to defy such a long absence.

Dual course winner Alpesh Almin looks much more solid for Eric McNamara, coming into this off the back of a really good effort to finish third to Jody Ted in a Pertemps qualifier at Punchestown. That was probably a better race than this and there is a good chance this has been his primary target.

One more to consider is Ardera Ru, who is a real consistent mare for Eoin Doyle. She has been running well over fences recently, elevating her mark to 110, and though she is 4lb higher over hurdles, she has a good record at this discipline and handles soft ground very well.

SELECTION: ALPESH ALMIN

Next best: Ardera Ru

3.12 Roche’s Feeds Handicap Hurdle 2m

Petit Dejeuner scored quite comfortably over this course and distance last time and she is taken to go in again for Denise Foster.

The five-year-old mare was having her first run in 164 days and first run in a handicap hurdle, and she picked up really well to score by four lengths from New Barn Lane.

That rival opposes again here on 5lb better terms, and deserves respect, but Petit Dejeuner strikes as a mare who can improve now and may be too strong again.

Pidoyne ran well over this course and distance in November, when getting tired late on in a handicap hurdle won in fine style by Splashing Out. She is a consistent mare, having hit the frame five times from her previous six starts, so has every chance of running well again.

SELECTION: PETIT DEJEUNER

Next best: Pidoyne

3.47 Whitebox Property Group INH Flat Race 2m

Willie Mullins and Jody Townend can make it back to back wins in this contest with Hens Tooth.

The daughter of Getaway improved from her first point-to-point run to win at Belclare last March and now makes her track debut for the champion trainer.

Gordon Elliott’s Lough Owel is the obvious danger. He won a point-to-point at Fairyhouse on his third start and again, makes his track debut now.

SELECTION: HENS TOOTH

Next best: Lough Owel
